Thomas Byrne (pictured) is the Bettendorf High School winner of the 2015 Bettendorf-Pleasant Valley Youth Baseball scholarship. Grant Morthland won the award this year at Pleasant Valley High School. Byrne beat out a field of seven incredibly-worthy candidates with the following qualifications: 1) Eight seasons as a player in the BPV (six are required)' 2) Six seasons (and counting) as an umpire in the BPV; 3) a 3.625 Grade-Point Average. Bryne was selected in a blind vote of the candidates' qualifications by BPV's Board of Directors. A tiebreaking vote was required when Bryne and Nick Arevalo finished the first ballot with four votes each. Another candidate, Jason Erbst (pictured with Bryne in the second picture), finished a vote back with three votes.
