Tryouts for the BPV Royals — the Bettendorf-Pleasant Valley Youth Baseball 10-under tournament team — is Thursday, July 14 from 6-7:30 p.m.

All of the tryout opportunities are at Crow Creek Park’s diamond number 6.

The tryouts are in advance of the 2023 USSSA season. This team will be playing BPV games during the week and 1-2 USSSA weekend tournaments per month.

Players with birth dates of 5/1/2012 and younger are eligible to try out and play for the BPV Royals 10-U team.

All families are eligible for these BPV weekend tournament teams, but these opportunities are separate from the BBC (Bettendorf Baseball Club) partnership between BPV and the Bettendorf High School baseball program.

The Bettendorf Baseball Club (BBC) is expanding teams to all levels — 8-under to 14-under — with tryouts the weekend of Aug. 6-7.

The BBC is a partnership between Bettendorf-Pleasant Valley Youth Baseball and Bettendorf High School’s baseball program to offer a mixture of BPV league play with extra baseball in weekend tournaments in the area.

The BBC program launched a successful “beta” team in the fall of 2020 that currently competes together as a 13-U club in BPV’s Juniors Division and USSSA events in the region.

The Aug. 6-7 tryouts are for 2023 BBC teams. The BHS coaching staff and players are conducting the tryouts and will choose the teams. Please circle these dates and times on your calendar:

SATURDAY, AUG. 6:
Crow Creek 4-plex (fields No. 10 & 11)

8-under: 1 p.m.
9-U & 10-U: 3 p.m.

SUNDAY, AUG. 7:

11-U & 12-U: 1 p.m. at Crow Creek 4-plex (fields No. 8 & 9)
13-U & 14-U: 4 p.m. at Saldivar Field at Devils Glen Park

A Q&A informational meeting about the program is scheduled for Sunday, July 31 at the 7 p.m. under the pavilion at the Crow Creek Park 4-Plex.

To qualify for any of the BBC teams, players cannot be older than the age listed as of May 1, 2023.

NOTE: The BBC is specifically for current Bettendorf Community Schools students and their families! Separate BPV tournament teams for Pleasant Valley Schools (and students from other schools feeding into BPV) also are offered but unaffiliated with a high school program at this time (we share those tryout details when available and as teams are forming!)

We have had a very successful “beta” run with our current 13-U BBC team, and we look forward to expanding our program across all age levels this coming year.

Tryouts for 2023 Bettendorf Baseball Club (BBC) weekend tournament teams at 8-under, 9-under and 10-under are Sunday, June 26 at the Crow Creek Park 4-Plex.

The tryout sessions are Noon-2 p.m. for 8-under, 2-4 p.m. for 9-under and 4-6 p.m. for 10-under.

The tryouts are conducted by the Bettendorf High School baseball coaching staff and players. Plan to report to the 4-Plex 30 minutes prior to your tryout session.

Tryouts for the four oldest teams (11-under to 14-under) are Sunday, Aug. 7. The field and time schedule will be announced later in July.

WHAT IS THE BBC?

In 2020, Bettendorf-Pleasant Valley Youth Baseball (BPV) began a new partnership with the Bettendorf High School baseball program called the Bettendorf Baseball Club (BBC).

The idea was simple: Make BHS and BPV baseball both better by helping turn the BPV players attending Bettendorf Community Schools into the next BHS players.

A key goal was for players to form closer bonds — and promote improved team chemistry — from the current model of multiple travel teams with players never playing with each other until they make one of the high school teams.

The BHS coaches also wanted to invest their time in helping instruct players at the lower levels to learn to become great Bulldogs someday,

A 12-U team was formed for the 2021 season and continues playing today at the 13-U level, successfully mixing weeknight play and practices in the BPV with action in select weekend travel tournaments.

The upcoming tryouts are the next step to expanding the program to additional age levels.

The BBC is committed to building a quality organization with well-led teams that will cultivate future BHS Bulldog baseball players and confident, responsible, hardworking young men.

BBC teams develop both by playing at their current age level in weekend USSSA tournaments and by “playing up” in BPV weeknight games, a combo that fosters well-rounded, multi-position athletes.

BBC players will be eligible for both all regular BPV activities (games, practices, camps, clinics) and unique BBC team activities, including chances to learn from BHS baseball players and coaches.

BBC teams will wear uniforms designed by BHS coaches and BBC board members to reflect the colors and styles of Bettendorf High School Baseball.

While travel baseball normally includes significant costs, the BBC is committed to offering opportunities to players from a broad range of economic backgrounds.

Pleasant Valley High School’s defending state baseball champions are hosting the program’s annual Youth Baseball Night on Thursday, June 9.

The Spartans play a doubleheader that night starting at 5 p.m. Youth baseball players are asked to arrive by 4:45 p.m.

Admission is free for youngsters wearing their youth baseball team’s jersey.

Youth baseball players will be invited on the field to line up with the Spartans players and coaches for the National Anthem.

At the conclusion of the doubleheader, PV players and coaches will sign posters provided for the youth players.

Teams are encouraged to attend together, and if playing that night, please feel free to stop by after your game!

The second game of the PV doubleheader is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start and should wrap up by 9-9:30 p.m.

The Bettendorf High School baseball program is offering a youth baseball day camp June 7-8 and June 10 at the BHS baseball field.

Cost of the camp is $50 and includes a camp t-shirt. Please make checks payable to Bettendorf Baseball.

Participants will work on building their baseball skills with fundamental work with the Bulldog coaches and players.

The camp runs each of those three mornings — Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday — from 9-10:30 a.m. for grades 3-5 and 10:30-noon for grades 6-8.

Participants are asked to bring their glove, bat, and water bottle. Campers should wear tennis shoes and baseball pants.
